Hey Everyone, Thank you for attending today’s meeting. Our topic of discussion was “Unity in Diversity.” We learnt what is diversity, and its manifestation in the world: New York City(40% born outside US), India (differences in religion, food, art, language), Water(H2O), Paella (Spanish rice dish with many ingredients), Emirates Airline(27 crew members, 27 different countries), and Radio City Musical (cast of 150 performers). So, how is unity in diversity possible. Pope Francis says, “Look more ‘to that’ which unites us rather than that which ‘divides us.’” Therefore, for unity, we need common goal, shared vision, and common purpose. Where can I find a common goal, shared vision and common purpose? What’s the principle of unity? Again, Pope Francis has the answer, he says “Christ alone can be the principle, the cause and the driving force behind our unity.” So let us celebrate diversity. Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization. - Mahatma Gandhi Our next meeting: 10:00am Sat, Mar 18 at Our Lady of Loretto Church. Have a wonderful weekend!

IY Kids Last Wednesday, we got to know more about what Idente Youth is. Based on this, we made a poster about different chapters of Idente Youth in the world, meanings of its symbols and Idente Youth values. The purpose of the poster was to inform them of the purpose of our weekly meeting and the sense of belonging to the whole Idente Youth in the world. Then, some of us shared their resolution to live out Idente Youth values. IY Teens Our teens discussed how to defend human life and its sacredness from conception to natural death. Next week, our teens plan to share examples of music, art, and videos that defend and showcase the beauty of human life. IY Kids News Last Wednesday our topic was about trust. We heard situations where people who do not trust each other and discussed how to handle the situations with trust. For example, in a situation our friends do not listen to us, some of say that we should ignore them but we learn that we should keep caring for our friends even though not listening to us. IY Teens News Our Idente Youth teens discussed the culture of death and how to go against it. We spoke about the beauty of human life and how throughout history people have tried to attack it by promoting abortion, euthanasia, bullying, and other forms of violence. Our teens committed themselves to protecting all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. Hey Everyone! We had a great time last Saturday at the group. Two different locations, two different meetings. What do we mean ? IY had the weekly meeting at the church, and at the same time were at the Diocesan Youth Day in St. Elizabeth Church, Melville. If you didn’t know, this is called “BI-LOCATION.” At the weekly meeting our topic of discussion was “Giving” (Eg: Alms Giving). We saw how this action is engrained in other religious philosophies. At the diocesan youth day, we had the popular catholic speaker and beat boxer Paul J Kim talk about the two most important life questions: who am I? And What is my purpose in life? Bishop Nelson Perez (Diocese of Rockville Center)celebrated the mass, and in his homily preached about changing (evangelizing, being Christ like for the other) one person at a time. Thank you to all of you that made this little miracle possible. Our next meeting: 10:00am Sat, Mar 11 at Our Lady of Loretto Church. See you soon… Hey Everyone! We had an amazing meeting this past Saturday. The topic of discussion was “Philosophy: Success” and our presenter for the day was Rolando. Success was defined as “the accomplishment of a particular goal or purpose.” We were informed that anyone can become successful, regardless of their situation. Rolando also gave a group a sneak peek into the philosophy of Jean Paul Sartre, a French existentialist. Below were our discussion questions:
A big shout out to Rolando for an extraordinary presentation. Our next meeting: 10am Sat, Mar 4 at Our Lady of Loretto Church. Have a wonderful week! “A goal without a plan is only a wish” IY Kids Last Wednesday our kids did their own skits. We had discussion about how to understand and help the other persons who are in difficulties. And, last Monday, we had trip to the Bronx Zoo. We enjoyed seeing the animals and the nature. Also, we shared our friendship with one another. IY Teens What is true love? Our teens had a great discussion on unconditional love. True love, we concluded, is self-sacrificial, always placing the needs of the others before one's own needs. We reflected on the example that Christ gave us and how we can always love more each day. We also had an amazing bowling trip on President's Day! Thank you so much for all your support! It was a wonderful IY meeting we had. Last week we celebrated the birthday of our IY members. This week, we had the new topic for the month of March with a PowerPoint presentation on "Forgiveness." Next week we are going to work on Art and craft, let we all bring our friends so they too can learn with fun together with us.... Do not forget that we are going to have Kids IY from next week onwards ..WOOOhoooo! so Please inform all the kids in our parish and outside... Hey Everyone! Thank you so much for attending today’s meeting. We discussed on the topic of “Homelessness.” Nathalie made the presentation, and then we had our guests Marianne Sheridan and Joanne Buonocore share with us the “Midnight Run” project. We were informed of the reality of homelessness in NY and strongly urged to look at homeless people differently. The video we watched showed us how we as a society ignore these people, our goal as young people should be to make these homeless people visible. I all begins by doing little things, like stopping and greeting them, making eye contact, talking with them, and, if possible, giving them something material. More info on the Midnight Run will be provided in the upcoming meetings….. Last Wednesday our kids played some games about trusting one another which was guided by our friend Eduardo. Also, our Kids were so excited to discuss about the virtue of trusting one another. We also watched a short clip of the Parable Prodigal son from the Bible. We genuinely believe that a small seed of trust is enough to grow great love between two people. "Without Confidence and Love there can be no True Education" - St.Don Bosco Hey Everyone! It has been sometime since we last posted about our meetings. Better late than never J On Jan 21, we had Johnny and Anthony collaborating to present the seminar on “Courage.” Courage was defined as “Putting yourself at risk for some higher purpose.” We were enlightened on the positive results of courage and the ways in which we could cultivate this virtue. At the following two IY meetings (Jan 28 & Feb 4), we watched a 1985 American classic movie, “The Breakfast Club.” The storyline follows five teenagers, each a member of a different high school clique, who spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all more than their respective stereotypes, while facing a strict disciplinarian. Our next meeting: 10am Sat, Feb 11 at Our Lady of Loretto Church. Please note that we will have Marianne Sheridan, the director of youth, young adults & campus ministry in the diocese of Rockville center visiting us to present the Midnight Run project. Hence please make a special effort to be present at this Saturdays meeting. See you on Saturday! |
