Our topic last Wednesday was cooperation. It was brought up because we are living in culture of individualism. We worked together in games and activities and learned how to be a cooperative person. And also on July 10, we went to the movie theater in Bay Plaza to watch 'Incredible 2'. We also learned about how the family of the superheros cooperate with each other to bring peace of others.
Last Wednesday we were so happy to welcome our faithful guest speaker, Michael Lugano. With him, we celebrated the promotion of all of our members in the school. We were inspired by a video of a retired man who graduated from his high school. Then, we had fun playing a game called 'ush', and drew how we would be like in the future. We learned so many things thanks to Michael Lugano. Congratulations to all those who graduated this year.
Our topic this month is accomplishment. We learnt about great examples of accomplishment, Helen Keller and George Moses Horton. Keller was an author by overcoming her deafness and blindness. Horton was a poet in spite of his slavery. We wrote together about their accomplishment.
Also, we would like to say special thanks to all of our parishioners who generously donated, supported and assisted the bake sales for the summer camp for the last two Sundays.
We, Idente Youth Kids, were privileged to be with Diana Boschen, one of our parishioners. With her loving sacrifice, she came once again to teach us about being gifts to others. She shared many ways of being kind to others. We drew one of the ways of being kind to others and shared it with each other.
We all know how much our mother loves us. As the Mother’s day was coming near, we decided to make
something that would make our mothers smile. Last Wednesday, the children had a special activity which was
to make Mother's Day cards for their mothers in which the children showed their love to their mothers. They all
made wonderful cards for thier mothers and had fun making them. Many of them made very decorative cards.
Especially, one child made an amazing card that was in 3-D.
We had a great meeting last Saturday. The topic of our discussion was "Gangs and Prevention." Our presenter was Elsy Martinez, a freshman from Hempstead Public School. What is a gang? A gang is a group of three or more individuals. A group with a unique name and other identifying attributes (color, hand gestures, symbols, and clothing a group with They demonstrate commitment to crime by, prior, or current criminal activity. All types of ages can be found in a gang.
The presentation included other questions: What causes kids to join gangs?, How do new members join the a gang?, Influence in gangs, Is there LOYALTY in a gang?, Why do we find children in gangs?, and What do gang members aim for?
Kudos to Elsy for taking the courage to speak on this important topic. Amazing work!
LA's gang members transformedWe watched a short film about Homeboy Industries and Father Greg Boyle, which showcased the transformation of gang members to normal life. There is hope!
Happy Mother's DayThe members made special art work and wrote thank you texts to celebrate the gift of the "Mother" figure we have in our life.
Our IY Teens watched the documentary,
"The Human Experience." Two brothers from Brooklyn go on a journey to find the true meaning of life. They live with the homeless in the cold winter of NYC and then they later visit a home in Lima, Peru for children who were abused and abandoned. The teens learned how we can find the true meaning of our lives when we serve others in need.
Part two of the documentary coming up next week! Join us Next Thursday at 5:00pm at Saint Dominic's!
Our Idente Youth teens discussed the importance of evaluating the purpose of all of our relationships.
" God gives us relationships to help us become the-best-version-of-ourselves. He gives us relationships so that we can help each other get to Heaven ... the purpose of every relationship is two people helping each other become the-best-version-of-themselves. It doesn't matter if it is a relationship between husband and wife, boyfriend and girlfriend, brother and sister, parents and children, manager and employee, coach and player, teacher and student. " - Matthew Kelly
Last Wednesday in Idente Youth Kids meeting the children had a special guest that would introduce the children to music and what it truly is about. Having the children close their eyes while they hear a piece of a song and some said the music represents love and peace. The speaker said, "Sometime Music has feeling from experiences based on certain sounds". Showing how one sound can be made into music and also using a number of them to sing one note to use rhythm and melody in order to compose a song. They learnt the three rules of music: rhythm, melody and harmony.
Hi Everyone,Last Wednesday, in the Idente Youth Kids Meeting all the children played a fun activity of eye spy. We all had fun guessing what the mystery answer would be about what the person set their mind to be. We guessed many things ranging from the color of something to a letter of someone's name. Then, we continued to watch the movie, 'St. Joseph Cupertino'. We watched the movie. As we watched the movie, we realized that the main character's father has passed and the Idente Youth kids reacted very sad for him. They, knowing that he is a simple-minded person, know he would still be happy that he was still alive with his mother even though he was kicked out of the monastery. The children reacted in the shoes of St. Cupertino.
